Compared to wild chokecherry populations, Garrington seedlings are generally more larger and more productive, with large clusters of dark purple fruit and strong, vigorous growth.
Prunus virginiana is hardy to Zone 3 and is well suited to northern climates, where it tolerates poor soils, cold winters, and drought better than many fruiting shrubs.
